When Jesus was born to the Virgin Mary, a star was placed in the sky that served as a guiding light for three wise kings that studied astrology. This study involves the investigating of “celestial bodies” especially concerning the constellations. Magi watched the skies for signs that fulfill divine prophecies. From Genesis to Isaiah and ending at the book of Revelation in the Holy Bible there is mention of “signs in the heavens.”
Isaiah 60:6—”The multitude of camels shall cover your land, The dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; All those from Sheba shall come; They shall bring gold and incense, And they shall proclaim the praises of the Lord.” The prophet Israelite Isaiah beheld a vision of the wise men coming to visit Jesus Christ, he foresaw the Birth of our Savior, Immanuel, and the rise and fall of nations. When camels are mentioned in scripture concerning prophecy, they are symbols of wealth and kingship. When the gift of Gold was given, this was a representation of that kingship. The second gift was Frankincense; a resin derived from a tree in Africa that is often burned as incense or used in anointing oil. This essential oil is often used in European hospitals to treat illnesses such as cancer or depression.
Frankincense aids in boosting the immune system and stimulates cell regeneration. It truly is a miraculous cure-all valued more than gold and precious rubies; it is worthy of symbolizing the divinity of Christ. The third gift was Myrrh; a resin similar to Frankincense also derived from a tree, it has many uses but was most often used for burial to mask the odor of decay and rot. This offering is a representation of sacrifice, more specifically alluding to Jesus being crucified and giving his life to pay the debt of our sin in blood.
Isaiah 7:14—”Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.” In Hebrew the name Immanuel means “God with us.” God the Father was manifested as man through his Son, Jesus Christ. John 1:14—”And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” Indeed, Jesus Christ walked among us as both man and God, he was not born into sin, but although he was tempted as any other man would be, he just never succumbed to it. In John 1:1-3—”In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” This is King Jesus, he is our creator, our provider, our comforter, and beyond, he is our everything.
After a 2-year journey, the 3 wise men, believed to be named: Gaspar, Melchior, and Baltasar visited Jesus (2-years old) to present their offerings. Gaspar (Caspar) was the King of Sheba and brought Frankincense. Melchior was King of Arabia and he brought the gold. Baltasar (Balthazar) was King of Tarse and Egypt and he brought the Myrrh. Isaiah’s prophecy was fulfilled with the birth of Jesus, his life, his sacrifice, his death, and the resurrection. Now we await Yahweh’s second-coming.
