UFO’s AND ALIENS?

In the past few decades there has been a lot of talk about unidentified flying objects (UFOs), also called unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs), as well as talk of various types of aliens. Certainly aliens are a big deal to New Agers. There have been multiple sightings of UFOs as well as accounts of people being abducted by aliens.

The topic has received serious discussion in Congress and in the Pentagon. And of course science fiction has long had a fascination with life beyond our planet with such things as War of the Worlds, The Martian Chronicles, Buck Rogers in the 25^th Century, Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E. T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Dune, Alien, Predator, Starship Troopers, Independence Day, Mars Attacks, and Men in Black, plus others.

A number of cultures around the world have had legends, stories, and myths about encounters with beings who came from the stars. Some have speculated that everything from the Egyptian pyramids to descriptions of angelic beings in the Bible (in Ezekiel, for example) can be accounted for by the presence of alien beings. All this is far beyond the scope of a mere blog. What I intend to do here is to explain in a Biblical manner, why we do not believe in aliens.

Is it possible that God could have created other habitable planets? Of course, since nothing is too hard for Him (Genesis 18:14; Jeremiah 32:27). One can even think the Scriptures imply that these types of planets exist:

Hebrews 1:1-2:  God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;…

The word worlds, which also appears in Hebrews 11:3, is derived from the Greek word aion (eye-OHN), which is where we get the word eon from. Aion can mean a period of time or an age, eternity, or the worlds or universe. Here it means the creation, including the heavenly bodies, not habitable planets out there in space.

UFOs have been seen to make incredible maneuvers, such as plunging into and rising back out of the ocean, stopping and starting suddenly, making turns at fantastic speeds, even splitting into several “ships” and then merging back into one again. Many of these things, especially the splitting and remerging, are simply not possible by the physical laws of our universe. The most rational explanation is that these “spaceships” are hyperdimensional; that is, they exist or can go in and out of other dimensional planes beyond the three dimensions plus time that we live in. Physicists currently believe there are either 10 or 11 dimensions.

Spirit beings are also apparently hyperdimensional and have abilities we cannot even explain, such as being able to take the form of humans (Genesis 18:1-15)and being able to fly (Daniel 9:20-21). They also can appear and vanish out of sight, as the Angel of the LORD (a preincarnate appearance of Jesus Christ) did several times in the Old Testament (for example, see Judges 13:1-21). Jesus could also appear and disappear suddenly in His resurrection body (Luke 24:25-31; John 20:24-26). A dimensional barrier would be a good explanation as to why, in the rich man and Lazarus account (Luke 16:19-31), Abraham could see the rich man in hell and the rich man could see Abraham and Lazarus in heaven, but neither could come to the other.

Between the capabilities of UFOs and spirit beings it is not hard to see how people could believe there are aliens, and yet there is still more to this story. New Agers speak of traveling in astral planes and encountering spirit beings while still being able to see in our regular three-dimensional world. The various “races” of beings allegedly coming from the stars include but are not limited to: Grays (or Greys)—small  humanoids with unusual features such as large heads and black eyes; Nordics—very human-like, tall, blonde, strongly built, with blue eyes; various reptilian-like beings; aliens with insect-like bodies; and those with bird-like features.

The peculiar thing is, none of these so-called extraterrestrials want to lead people to Jesus, but rather, to turn people away from Him, even going so far as to say that they invented the world’s religions, including Christianity. Who but Satan and his evil kingdom would want to turn people away from the only One who can save their souls? These beings are demons masquerading as aliens! Think about it: Angels, fallen angels, and demons are all spirit beings, and they all possess unusual abilities due at least in part to their hyperdimensional nature. Who’s to say these extremely intelligent beings do not possess the technological know-how and physical resources to create vessels capable of travel throughout all the dimensional planes, even being made from materials which do not exist in our universe? They could also come from across space easily, being able to travel at the speed of thought. For all this, there is still another aspect which makes the existence of races outside of mankind impossible, a more relatable reason at that.

We know that the sacrifice of various animals for atonement purposes in the Old Testament pointed the way to Jesus Christ, the propitiation for our sins. God came in the likeness of man—as Jesus Christ—to  pay for the sins of the human race. He came as one of us in order that we humans could be saved. Jesus did not come as a Nordic, a Gray, an insectoid, a reptilian, or any other one of these beings. The only way He ordained for people to be saved is by shedding His blood at Calvary as a human (Romans 5:6-19, 8:2-4). The atonement He provided is effectual for any person who will accept the free gift of salvation:

John 3:16-17:  “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”

Here, the word in Greek for world is kosmos (KOSS-moss), which is where we derive the word cosmos. Like aion, it also can mean the stars or the universe, but it also can mean the earth—our world—and plainly the context of this passage dictates that it can mean nothing else but our world, a world full of humans needing salvation. Jesus came to save the humans who are in our world who believe in Him.

Consider also the fact that it is God’s great love for fallen man which has compelled Him to reconcile us to Himself ever since Adam and Eve transgressed in the Garden of Eden. In the fall of mankind into sin, all of creation likewise fell under a curse:

Romans 8:19-22:  For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.

There are storms on other planets in the solar system. Stars explode and die. Gas clouds in space spread out and dissipate. Galaxies occasionally collide, believe it or not. And on it goes—creation is in a fallen state. If there were other races of beings out there—aliens—then they, too, would be in a fallen state, in need of redemption. God would have been compelled in His great love to reconcile them to Himself just like He did with us. He would not only have had to appear to each one of them like He did to Adam and Eve, Moses, and so on, He also would have had to come to them as Jesus Christ in the form of each race and thus would have had to shed His blood on whatever planet for whose alien inhabitants He was making atonement for.

But the Bible is plain not only in showing us that Jesus died for humankind only, He also was crucified once and will never again be sacrificed:

Hebrews 7:26-28:  For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens; who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. For the law appoints as high priests men who have weaknesses, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who has been perfected forever.

While science fiction may be entertaining, it is still just that—science fiction—and we do not live in a sci-fi world but in a real one, complete with good and evil, life and death, temporary and eternal places of residence. The battle between the kingdom of God and the kingdom of Satan is real, and it is heating up at a furious pace as we pass through the last of the last days.

The enemy of our souls is pulling out all the stops and doing whatever he can to deceive anyone and everyone he can. If this includes the illusion of an encounter with a superior alien race, he will do that. Remember: The Bible is true. God and His Word will never lie to us. Jesus Christ will never lie to us. The Holy Spirit will never lie to us. The Spirit will always point us to Jesus, and the Lord will never uphold any other means of salvation except His only begotten Son. We can trust every single letter, dot, and dash of Holy Writ.

No matter what folks say about UFOs and aliens, even if they have the most convincing “evidence” possible—live “aliens” and captured alien “spacecraft”—do not believe it! Do not be deceived! Keep your faith and focus on Jesus Christ at all times and at all costs. Never be persuaded against God, His Word, His Son, or His Spirit.
