Worship Makes Warships

A warship is a vessel equipped with weaponry to prepare for battles at sea. As Christians we are to equip ourselves to fight spiritual warfare, we are to be mighty soldiers for the army of the Lord. This is told in 2 Timothy 2:3-4— “You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of his life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.” There are 7 main types of warships: aircraft carriers, cruisers, destroyers, frigates, corvettes, submarines, and amphibious assault ships. Each one plays a different role to win the battle, while some supply tools or vehicles necessary for war, some are built for defense.

In the Christian faith, God has appointed a five-fold ministry which also includes different roles: apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, and teacher. There is a multitude of spiritual gifts that are integrated into these roles assigned to individuals. Ephesians 4:12-13— “for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” The body of Christ is the church, and the church is not a physical foundation, but God’s children unified with relationships built upon Yahweh’s promises.

There are many different denominations in Christianity which hinder this unity, many of which place emphasis on Old Testament and law. This often brings division in the body of Christ because of differing views on what should be valued and practiced. 2 Corinthians 3:6 explains— “who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” If everyone in the various sects could understand this verse in the Holy Bible, they would know that this is bringing light to the New Testament and is a reminder that we live under God’s Grace now, not the law. It is by understanding this knowledge that we can abide in His Word, that we can do as Jesus did. John 15:7— “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.” This is the Lord’s promise, if we obey him then we find prosperity. Our victory is already assured, we simply have to obey his commands, and do as it is told in 1 Corinthians 16:13-14— “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. Let all that you do be done with love.” Worship goes beyond giving thanks and praise, worship is living in obedience to the One True King.

Through obedience not only do we prosper, but we are also strengthened in our spirit, and can allow the Holy Spirit to operate in us. We can do as we are called to do because we trust in Elohim. We are loyal soldiers in God’s army, and that makes us a formidable opponent in the enemy’s sight. 2 Corinthians 10:4-6—”For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”  There is Victory in the name of Jesus!
