DO YOU BELIEVE IN THE BIBLE?

As Christians, we are to believe in the Bible—God’s Word—and obey it.  Sadly, in these last days there is a lack of real belief in the Bible.  Polls have been taken which show that those who identify as Christians are taking an increasingly fast and loose approach to Holy Writ.  For some examples, a number of professing believers do not think that the Genesis creation account should be taken literally, that there is no such thing as a literal hell, and that there are other paths to God besides salvation by Jesus Christ.  There are others, but the point should already be clear: There is a faith crisis of epic proportions in the Body of Christ as far as the Word of God is concerned.  Poor Bible versions and feelgood preaching have not helped, either.  So what does the Bible say about its veracity?  Here are several Scriptures to ponder:

2 Peter 1:19-21:  And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

John 17:17-  “Sanctify them by Your truth.  Your word is truth.”

Psalms 138:2-  I will worship toward Your holy temple, and praise Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth; for You have magnified Your word above all Your name.

Psalms 119:89-  Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven.

We can see, above all else, that the Word of God is inspired; that is, God-breathed.  The Holy Spirit moved upon the men who wrote the books of the Bible and worked through them to say the things He wanted people to know.  God is sinless, including being completely honest.  As much as He values His name, He exalts His Word even above that.  The Word of God is settled.  Nothing needs to be added to it and nothing needs to be taken away from it.  And the Scriptures above are only a sample of what the Bible says about itself!

Practically speaking, if a Christian claims the Bible is his or her holy book yet does not believe it or trust it fully as God’s very words, then why do they even use it at all?  One does not use an untrustworthy chair to sit in or an untrustworthy car to drive on a cross-country trip, so why do they use a book which they feel is not completely dependable?  Well, they are wrong because the Bible is completely trustworthy.  God never, ever lies.  To doubt His Word is to call Him a liar whether this is intended or not.  The Bible is God’s letter to man, and it can be depended on completely.  It is to be obeyed also.

Believers have questions about the Bible from time to time.  That in itself is not wrong.  It is good, when one has a question about it, to find an answer.  The kind of questioning that is problematic is the kind where the Bible itself is doubted.  Trust the Bible.  Live by it.  You will not go wrong by doing that.  And as for what version you should use, our ministers have done thorough research and have concluded that, in this order, by far and away the two best versions out there are the New King James Version and the regular King James Version.  Enjoy your journey through the Word of God!
