The Precious Gift of Life

I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one goes to the Father except by me.” –  (John 14:6)

The words of a wise man once said, “The most precious gift in life is Life”. That man was my neighbor. On a natural aspect it would leave you thinking for a second but not enough to keep you going, but on a spiritual aspect it sparks a curiosity in you to seek what, or in this case rather who is above, deeper than ever before.

Who is above you ask?

The Life that’s far beyond man’s comprehension. The Life that is far beyond mortal beings’ existence. The Life that is outside of the dimension of time.

My neighbor helped me to see that all along I had faith in Life, I was just unaware. He went on to explain saying, “Without Life, you wouldn’t be able to do what you personally consider to be a gift. Whether it’s obtain more money, have a new job, a roof over your head and food on your table, preaching the gospel, spreading the Word of God, etc.”

 And he is right.

Every day it takes faith. Faith in Life to be exact. How else would you wake up? If it wasn’t for Life choosing to wake you up, you would just be lifeless awaiting to be dug six feet under. Every day you have faith that you’re going to make it to your job without a scratch on your car or a bruise on your body. Every day we have faith we’re all going to a good place in Life without ever paying for the wrongs we’ve done. Everyday people have faith in the airline pilot who’s flying the airplane they get on. They have faith that the pilot took the necessary classes to be equipped to fly a plane 36,000-50,000 feet in the air. Every day you have faith that the sun will rise at the same time and the earth will continue to rotate on its axis.

It is exceedingly rare for us to acknowledge that it is Him, Life Himself that keeps everything going. And it is rare for the world to praise Him for who He truly is. The Bible declares Life as Jesus, Our God, our Lord and Savior but unfortunately in this lost and broken world everyone wants to become their own god. Some people want to have faith in themselves without the faith of God. For example, as a delivery driver I could easily say that my perfect driving is what got me from point A to point B but without my knowledge even though I was driving perfect God stopped me from getting into an accident with a drunk driver who was driving reckless approaching by putting it on his heart to pull over and rest.

Some people believe that they are waking themselves up every morning. In some cases that is most of us, sometimes we live as though we do not need God to live. Some people want to give ‘the universe’, ‘mother nature,’ or buddha the credit but wreak havoc at the name of Jesus. Some people don’t even want to open their eyes to believe God even exists. But the Bible faithfully declares Jesus as the one true living God. He is the way, the truth and the Life connected to our Source (Father God) who provides us with everything we need to live a life with meaning and value, a life that’s worth living for. In everything we do God is behind the scenes working out everything for our good, so ultimately He deserves the praise.

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. – (Romans 8:28)

Without Life there would be no reason to live, it would be meaningless, or lived in vain. Without Life we’d find ourselves working hard for money just to say we accomplished something or chase the Hollywood dream of being rich and famous for the approval and praises of man just for it to all pass away with us but what about after the life you live? Do you think that money that is buried with you or the title you carry will matter after you’re six feet under?

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.” – (Matthew 6:19-20)

For some religions they truly believe in reincarnation, but the Bible makes it clear there’s only one life and one death us mortal beings have on this earth.

Unfortunately, you won’t get to come back as someone else or an animal and get a chance to live life right a second time because God’s grace gives us a another chance everyday to live life right with His Supernatural, or divine help. We have the help of the Holy Trinity (God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit) every single day because God never leaves nor forsakes us even when we’ve backslid.

I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him. –

 – (Hosea 14:4)

He is that faithful and merciful, such a wonderful and amazing God He is! Someway somehow, He always finds a way to bring us back to Himself because He desires for us to live life abundantly and prosperously, but we cannot do that without Him.

Everyday you wake up is your free chance to start over, take accountability, evaluate your life, and learn from your lesson. Everyday He invites you to turn to Him, receive His salvation in all areas of your life and turn from your wrong doing. This life on earth is your free chance to live with Him, a life of purpose. With Him you discover who you are and what you have to offer to this world instead of chasing after the world to find yourself. With Him you discover what He has placed on the inside of you to bring Him the glory. The pain, trauma, hurt or brokenness you’ve experienced may have not been in His plan for your life, but it can be used to birth your purpose. Because of His grace, He’s given you a chance to live and tell your testimony to help save the lives of many other people.

While on my job, I delivered plenty packages to the UPS store, and they just so happened to be going to the same person. He told me that the woman who ordered the packages always buy toys online and gives them freely to little children in the hospital. He told me that her child passed away in the hospital but that didn’t stop her from birthing her pain into her purpose. Although she lost a child she gained Life, and the Life in her started a ministry of giving to children who were in the same predicament as her child.

Many of us see God as the reason behind our loss or pain and hurt but He’s actually the one waiting on us to use our opportunity of loss to gain Life. He is the one to mourn with us in grief or loss, because He feels what we go through. He’s for us and not against us. He is our Heavenly Father who loves us.

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. – (Romans 8:1)

God, the Judge of this world will weigh the life you lived on a balance scale, and He will determine whether you’ll spend eternity with Him in Heaven or eternal death in hell.

There is always hope in Christ no matter how deep we are in sin, how far behind we are in life, or no matter how far we have turned our backs from him. God promised to walk with us and talk to us when we receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior. When you lose your life here on earth you will be leaving everything and everyone behind to be with Him face to face. The invisible God will soon make Himself visible to you in a land that will no longer be full of darkness and evil…

Life gives you a reason to have joy in the morning, a reason to hope because you have someone to look forward to even when you’ve waken up on the wrong side of the bed. Life is the reason you breathe, without life you’d be a dead man walking on earth chasing temporary pleasure, or a breathless soul looking to fill your voids with everything except the very thing your soul needs.

Your soul needs an oxygen tank, and it needs light to fill those dark and empty voids. That very oxygen tank the soul needs is the Life we breathe, Jesus Christ.  Only God Himself can fill our voids, no one else on this earth can. He is the Light that darkness can not stand.

Reflection questions:

  • What do you personally consider to be a gift?

  • What areas in life do you have faith in God for but have been trying to do it in your own strength?

  • Will you put your trust and faith in Him, and receive His salvation for an area you’re currently struggling with in life?

  • When we died with Christ and received the new life of a Christian we received the Holy Spirit who leads us into life. Be honest with yourself…do you find yourself to be spiritual-minded being led by the spirit or carnal-minded, chasing after the things of the world and making decisions based off of your flesh?

  • Lastly, do you believe that God sent His Son, Jesus Christ in flesh to be your personal Lord and Savior to follow and obey?
