How to be Saved/Born Again
1. God loves you and wants you to have eternal life.
That is what the Bible tells us:
John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
John 10:10: “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
2 Peter 3:9: The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
2. Sin separates you from God.
God created people in His own image, and desires to have fellowship with us. We have a free will which we have used to do things our own way; that is, not God’s way. This causes separation from God. We cannot earn salvation.
Romans 3:23: …for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, …
Isaiah 59:2: But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.
Isaiah 64:6: But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; we all fade as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
3. God sent His Son Jesus Christ to pay the penalty for our sins.
That is good news. God, in His great love for us, sent Jesus Christ—God made flesh—to die on the cross for all the sins of the world. Jesus is the one and only way to salvation, and He is willing to save.
John 1:1, 14: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 14:6: Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Acts 4:12: “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
Romans 5:8: But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
4. You can receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior today.
The very fact that you felt a need for salvation and have been reading these life bearing Scriptures is evidence that God the Father has been dealing with your lost condition through the Holy Spirit and has invited you to be saved by His Son Jesus Christ. By repenting of (turning away from) your sins and trusting in Jesus Christ for your salvation, you will be saved. You are then adopted into God’s family and indwelt by the Holy Spirit.
John 6:37, 44: “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out…No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws Him; and I will raise Him up at the last day.”
Romans 10:8-10, 13: But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation…For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”
Romans 8:15-16: For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, …
Many churches and church outreaches have people coming to Christ pray what is called the sinner’s prayer. If you have followed the Biblical instructions above, then you are already saved. Saying such a prayer is a mere formality.
Here are a few steps you can take as a new believer in Christ:
- Read the Bible daily. Use a reliable translation. We recommend two: The New King James Version (modern English) and the King James Version (middle English).
- Pray daily. When you pray, always do it in Jesus’s name.
- Through prayer, seek out a loving, Bible-believing church to join. Perhaps you have some friends who are already Christians who can help you in this. You can also email our ministry at this address, IAOM@itaintoverministries.com to receive guidance in what type of church to look for, as well as to have any other questions answered that you may have. As other Christians are your brothers and sisters in Christ, make new friends among them and fellowship with them whenever you can.
- As soon as you can upon joining a church, receive water baptism. This is an outward, public, formal act of obedience to Jesus Christ.
- Tell others about Jesus and demonstrate the change He has made in you by the way you live. Give up sinful activities. Seek out more mature Christians who can guide you in this, and as you grow and mature in the faith, help newer Christians in turn in their journey with Jesus.
If you are feeling in your heart that you are in need of getting Saved and being Born Again, you can pray this simple prayer as a place to get started.
Father God, I come to you now as humbly as I know how, Lord. Lord Jesus, I believe that you lived a sinless life and that you died for my sins, that you were buried and that you rose again on the third day. I repent of all my sins right now in the Name of Jesus; and Lord Jesus, I ask that you come into my heart and help me to live the rest of my life for you. In Jesus’ Name! Amen!
